Well, I had a bit of a run in with the ground. I started feeling dizzy and wound up on the floor of

my garage.

Two weeks ago, I just started feeling dizzy out of nowhere. I don't think it's because anything

happened. Or if it did, I don't know what. (Clarified to what I was doing when I felt dizzy.)

Are you on any medications?

Yes, I take two. One for hypertension and one for my prostate. I usually fill out a prescription

with the pharmacy around the corner, but they're closed down now. My daughter filled out my

last prescription, about two weeks ago.

Do you take your medications on a schedule?

I've got one of those pillboxes -- makes it easy. One whole pill in the morning, one whole pill

in the evening.

Well, my last dose of the prostate medicine had to have been yesterday, but I took my

hypertension medication this morning... that was before the fall of course. I think I took

some Benadryl to get to sleep earlier this week too.

25 milligrams for my hypertension meds and 5 milligrams for the prostate medication.

In my lower left leg, around the calf. It was getting hard to bear... I was thinking of coming here

even before I fell this morning. (Clarified to where the pain comes from.)

When did the pain start?

Well, I'll usually have a little pain from my arthritis but I noticed my left leg getting much more

painful about two days ago and it hasn't stopped hurting since then.

Has the pain effected your sleep?

A few times in the past few nights, it has, yes.

Have you taken any medication for the pain?

I took some Advil when it started but it didn't really help at all.

What dosage of advil did you take?

25 milligrams for my hypertension meds and 5 milligrams for the prostate medication.

I guess I'm not sure of the dosage. I only ever took the amount advised on the bottle.

On a scale of 0 - 10, how bad is your pain?

Right now, I'd call the pain a 2. I know it's there, but it feels much milder than it did.

Not that I've ever heard of.

Do you live alone?

I've been living on my own, but my daughter Flora comes by when she can spare the time.

Do you use any walking aids?

I'll occasionally use a cane to steady myself when sitting down or standing up.

Do you smoke?

Well, I used to smoke back in the day. Started when I was about 20... but kicked the habit a

while ago. I was 60 by that time I realized how bad it was and stopped.

I am glad to hear you have stopped smoking.

Do you drink alcohol?

Every now and then I'll have a drink. It's not a routine for me though.

A beer at most or maybe one rum and coke if I'm feeling rambunctious. (Clarified to how

Do you drink socially?

I'll make a drink at family gatherings, but I do try and stay away from it... it's never really worth

the heartburn.

Does anything else cause heartburn?

It doesn't seem to radiate much. It's mostly isolated in my left lower calf.

I've been feeling this kind of numbness along with the pain in my left leg if that counts.

Do you exercise?

Occasionally, yes. I used to take a walk before getting started on the day's work, but I just

don't have the energy to walk very long anymore. And more recently, walking has been

tougher with this dizziness.

Do you have any pain with urination?

No. They said I might when I was diagnosed, but I haven't had pain there, so that's good. I do

have a bit of trouble holding it in all the time.

Do you eat enough fiber?

I think I eat enough. I started cooking for myself after Carrie passed away. I'm certainly not

starving.

I am sorry to hear about Carrie. Was she your wife?

Have you ever been to the hospital before?

Believe it or not, not recently. I was in the hospital once when I was 55 -- took a spill off my

roof. I also had surgery for an abdominal hernia three years after that.

Well, my hobby has been woodworking for some time, now that I'm retired. I restore antique

furniture in my workshop back home, and it's been going just fine, mostly. I admit there were a

couple of days recently when this dizziness made it harder for me to really get into it.

Do you have a support system?

Both of my daughters are just great to me, of course. Flora lives close by so she helps me out

around the house when she visits every few days. Jen just recently came into town to visit and

installed a brand new shower bar for me too.

I've never had any sort of bad reaction to medication, no.

Do you take any vitamin supplements?

Nope, don't see the use in them. Plenty of vitamins in food, right?

Do you have impaired vision?

I have a little trouble seeing, but I'm pretty sure it's nothing my reading glasses don't take care

of.

Have you lost any weight recently?

Yes, I lost a bit of weight actually. I noticed when my pants started fitting much looser recently.

Do you have any history of injuries?

I'm not sure if this leg pain is muscle related or not, but I haven't had any other injuries

besides the fall recently.

Have you had any history of memory loss?

My memory hasn't changed, still fine.

Any changes to your skin?

Well, my skin feels a little thin, but nothing I'd call an issue really.

I don't have any toothaches, no.

I'm on a typical American diet... I like meats and pastas. I try to eat fruits and veggies more

often now, but I've never been great about that. Oh, and I love vanilla ice cream. In general

though, I haven't been all that hungry lately.

Well, I started feeling a lot less hungry within the last few months, if that helps.

Do you have depression?

Can't say that I feel down too often. I get lonely every now and then, sure, but I definitely

wouldn't say depressed.

When did you fall this morning?

It was this morning, around about nine when I was getting out of my car. When I stood up,

everything started spinning around and down I went. I didn't bump anything too bad on the

way down, but I couldn't get back up, so I had to wait there till my daughter found me lying

there.

What was your pain level when you came to the hospital?

Well besides the fall, I've been having this horrible pain in my leg for a few days and my calf is

blowing up like some bad balloon animal.

Have you noticed any other changes in your health?

Well, it's really just the leg pain and the dizziness that have been bothering me.
