What is a Content Management System (CMS)? Describe its characteristics, technology used, features, benefits, and be sure to list several important Content Management Systems.

You must post your initial response (with references) before being able to review other student’s responses. Once you have made your first response, you will be able to reply to other student’s posts. You will no longer be able to go back and grade once the week has ended. You are expected to write at least 250 words in your initial post and you must make a minimum of 3 quality responses to your fellow student’s posts and rate them.

CMS is a content management system, according to Wikipedia, CMS is designed to manage the creation and modification of the digital content. the characteristics of CMS are content and web, content is the resource of the CMS and web is the way to show the content. Technologies used in the CMS are content are stored on the database and content to be presented to the web through the templates.

Following are the major features of CMS

  • Easy of management, the management interface is web based, what you need is just the browser, you can manage the CMS. You can track the content and monitor the activities, you can manage the notification of the tasks and you can manage multiple
  • Powerful publishing tool, when publishing the content to the CMS, need to keep all the format, layout, content tagging and template then next time we can easily use it.
  • SEO tool integration, as the content management, search engine can help to increase the reader
  • Social Media integration, in CMS the content can be shared easily to other social tools like twitter or facebook.
  • Security, ensuring maximum security on your website doesn’t just protect your data – it protects your customers and your business from a very public – and potentially devastating – exploitation (Enginess, 2018)

The benefits of the CMS are that it can let the users focus on the content itself and this tool become very easy to use and rollback quickly if needed.

Some popular CMS software are WordPress, 40% CMS websites on the internet are using WordPress (Wikipedia, 2021). Shopify and Joomla are also popularly used CMS software.
