Thesis Statement: The Emancipation Proclamation, issued by President Abraham Lincoln during the Civil War, was a turning point in American history that marked the beginning of the end of slavery and fundamentally transformed the social and political landscape of the nation, but its limitations highlighted the ongoing struggle for equal rights and freedoms for African Americans.
